So, it’s finally here. 2010. Twenty ten? Two thousand ten? Oh ten? That’s another post for another day.
One of my goals (read: goal, not resolution) for 2010 is to keep up with this blog. As many of you who may have followed my older blogs know, I tend to get bored with things and forget about them – so I’m going to do everything that I can to keep that from happening to this blog, because I really do love it a lot.
In the hopes of keeping things interesting for 2010, I’m expanding my blog. Food is a huge part of my life, but there’s a lot more to it. From now on, I’m hoping you’ll see some posts about organizing (a mad passion of mine), decorating (something I am working on constantly), movies, books (another one of my goals is to start reading more), and a lot more stuff that I haven’t thought of including just yet. It’ll be a fuller look at my life… although, who are we kidding? Food is my life.
To start off the year right, here’s a great post I found through my Google Reader on how to build your own spice rack. I struggle a lot with how to store my spices – especially since my apartment is huge and my kitchen is unbelievably small. Right now, I have a basket stuffed with little McCormick spices that I pull out of my pantry everytime I cook. Sure, it works – but it’s a pain in the ass when you can’t fit all your spices in the basket or when you have to empty out the whole thing to find the cinnamon hiding at the bottom. To add insult to injury, those McCormick bottles are usually too small to put anything bigger than a 1/2 teaspoon measure into – I usually end up measuring over the sink or washing that 1/2 teaspoon measure seven times before I’m done for the night. It’s frustrating.
Also, side note – I hate my pantry. It’s not very wide, but it’s incredibly deep. What is the point of that??? You can’t see all the way to the back, and it’s not like you’ll ever remember what’s in the back of the third shelf down on your pantry. The designer/architect that thought of doing that should be force-fed the three-year old Oreos that I threw away last time I cleaned out that damned pantry. That’ll teach him.
So I’d love to have something where I can put my spices out on the counter – easy access is key. The problem now is that I have enough counterspace for a toaster and that’s about it. The beauty of this spice rack below is that you can throw it up anywhere! I’m quite excited – stay tuned for pictures of my creation. It might be purple, who knows…
